VxWorks 6.8 and Wind River General Purpose Platform, VxWorks Edition 3.8 Demonstration and Evaluation for Intel's Navy Pier Atom Platform

Download Now

This evaluation of Wind River General Purpose Platform, VxWorks Edition 3.8 is an ISO image download that you can copy to a USB drive and run on your host system without permanently installing any software. This software provides a demonstration of Wind River's capabilities on Intel's Navy Pier platform.

Intel Navy Pier Atom–Based Platform

The Intel Atom processor N270, implemented in 45nm technology, is power optimized and delivers robust performance per watt for cost-effective embedded solutions. The Navy Pier platform consists of the Atom N270 plus the Mobile Intel 945GSE Express Chipset. See Intel Embedded Design Center for more information.

Product Demo Highlights

This evaluation provides instructions for the user to quickly install and boot the Intel Navy Pier platform using Wind River Workbench and VxWorks and create an application and debug it remotely from the Workbench debugger. Additionally the following capabilities are demonstrated:

  • Operating system capabilities: The VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) demonstration has various network capabilities enabled and demonstrable: Wind Manage, SNMP, DHCP, SNTP, SSH, plus web server configuration tool and device management. This demonstration includes Wind River's fast USB-based boot and various performance benchmarks (Dhrystone, Whetstone, EEMBC, Memory, and Wind River Kernel).

  • Tools capabilities: The demonstration platform includes the complete Wind River Workbench development suite. This is a full-featured Eclipse-based toolset with multicore debugging, profiling, and system optimization tools. Of note are the VxWorks source build projects that are used to create smaller VxWorks kernels for applications that require extremely small memory footprints.

Included Products

General Purpose Platform: Wind River General Purpose Platform, VxWorks Edition provides a solid foundation for a broad variety of devices, from aerospace and defense applications to networking and consumer electronics gear, robotics and industrial applications, precision medical instruments, and automobile navigation and telematics systems. The platform is ideally suited for devices requiring a highly scalable, hard real-time, deterministic run-time environment.

VxWorks run-time: General Purpose Platform is built on the industry-leading RTOS, VxWorks 6.8, and includes integrated networking and run-time technologies. The latest edition of VxWorks is backward-compatible with earlier versions, allowing customers to leverage existing and legacy software assets. This evaluation also includes Wind River Compiler and Wind River GCC Compiler.

Wind River Workbench: This evaluation includes Wind River Workbench, our integrated, Eclipse-based development suite. Workbench offers broad capabilities that support the entire development life cycle, from hardware bring-up to platform and application development, enabling standardization on one common environment across the enterprise.

Run-time analysis tools: Six run-time analysis tools (previously known as the Wind River ScopeTools suite) provide powerful AMP debugging as well as dynamic visualization tools for device software applications for both single core and multicore environments. They provide developers with visibility into the entire platform: application code, third-party libraries, and the operating system. You can monitor variables, optimize performance, and find memory problems, all while the system is still running.
